About the event

“I’m attached to this city, connected to this place. I belong here, it’s my place. I feel more at home here than in the city I was born.”

A sense of belonging, identity, home – just some of the recurring themes to emerge from recent oral history interviews recorded as part of the Mayflower 400 Southampton project. What is it like for those who arrive, settle and build new lives here? What do they bring with them, contribute to the city or make of the place they now call their home? This talk by Padmini Broomfield looks at their stories as told in their own words.
