What's hiding in the Studio?
Join artist Ben Johnson for September's illustrated talk.
Time & Location

Banqueting Hall, Tudor House & Garden, Bugle St, Southampton SO14 2AD, UK
About the event
"We go into a gallery and we see the paintings on a wall. We see the name and the material, but how did it come to be there? Why did somebody spend their life inside a studio, not knowing who would see their work and perhaps not knowing why they were making it? Day after day, hour after hour, not just questioning their craft but maybe in a ceremony of exorcism, questioning who they are, where did they come from, what they can remember and what has been hidden? A painting is a byproduct of this questioning."
Ben Johnson is a London-based painter, born in Llandudno, Wales. He specialises in paintings of architectural spaces and large-scale, ultra-detailed cityscapes. Southampton City Art Gallery hosted a retrospective of his works in 2015. We're delighted to welcome him as a guest speaker.
